Support H.R. 3791
Legislation was recently introduced in the House of
Representatives that would make a number of changes
to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant and the Staffing
for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants.
This legislation can potentially benefit our department
(and others like us) in several ways. It can:
-Raise the amount of funds appropriated to volunteer
departments by about 5%
-Increase grant amounts for Fire Prevention and Safety
-Allow us to use federal grant money for emergency
medical training (Currently, it is only for firefighting.)
-Allow financially strapped departments (like ours) more
flexible options than the current 5-10% matching money
requirement when awarded grants (That's right. Even
if Uncle Sam gives us money to buy a $200,000 fire
truck, we still have to come up with $20,000 per the
requirements)
